Sew Preppy!

Picture found on Social Couture. Simply cut a 7" long piece of ribbon sew two 1" d-rings to one side. Then place your napkin in the center and secure the belt loop. Picture found on Pinterest. This looks super easy and fun! Cut the end of a shirt sleeve approximately from the elbow to the cuff. Turn inside out and sew the elbow side closed. Finally, flip ride side out and put the cliff links on. Tie a ribbon around the top for a party favor.  Picture found on The Berry Blog . I love this sash! This bow is so full and beautiful but my favorite part is the monogramming on the end. It really makes a personal statement. These would make great gifts for braids maids. Maybe have the sash be part of their dresses for the wedding but then after they could wear it like this with another casual outfit. Happy Sewing!

Spring Wrap Dresses!

These dresses were made for my sister. She chose the fabrics and I put them together. She needed something that was adjustable and easy to wear after having surgery.  This was the first time I used the twin needle function on my new sewing machine. I love how easy it is to use. I will be using the twin needle more often, now that I know exactly how to set it up. Here is the finished sleeveless wrap dress in hot pink. She has these hot pink sandals that look amazing with this dress.  More twin needle fun! It amazes me that the thread doesn't get tangled.   Here is the green print fabric wrap dress.  Here is a better shot of the print on the green fabric. I think I am going to make a few for me. The only adjustments I would make are the ties could be thicker and add pockets. This pattern was from the Sew It All Magazine pattern, Spring Wrap Dress. Happy Sewing!

New Shorts and Bag

I recently made myself this cute little Charlie Bag from Very Purple Person's tutorial . You can make it reversible but I didn't I installed a magnet clasp and placed leather on the bottom so the white would not get dirty. I needed a slouchy market bag to go thrifting with. I usually stay away from white but I like the fact that it matches everything. I also made the white shorts. They are from Colette's Iris shorts pattern .  I love this pattern and I like the way they fit on me. Back to sewing!

Wiksten Tank Top Review

Was this project easy to make?  YES! This is one of the easiest tops you will ever make yourself. How long did it take you? 1 hour tops. Where can I find this project?  Sewing Patterns by Wiksten Sizing, was the chart correct did you have to adjust the project? Yes, the sizing chart was correct and it was easy to read. The top is cut a little low for me because I am petite. I have found out that I am not just short in the legs depart but in the torso as well. Other options: I did not follow the directions exactly. I did not add the front pocket to my tanks. I also used my serger to finish the edges instead of using the french seam technique in the pattern. I have made 3 Wiksten tanks already. I used navy binding on the last tank, to accent the navy in the print. The possibilities are endless. I want to make a long tank top and wear leggings with it.  I would also love to make this dress! I got this picture from Wiksten Made's Flickr . Maybe she will make

Sweet Coin Purse Tutorial for Teacher Gifts

This time of year is so special to me because I get to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into teaching my daughters. I love to make handmade gifts and this year is no exception. Since money does not grow on trees around here, I looked at my stash (I keep my scraps in hat boxes ) and tried to see what I had a lot of; small zippers, trims, Peltex strips ( from making iPad cases ), fabric scraps and some hardware for key fobs. So I set to work.  Materials: Plastic multipurpose 5" Zipper  Fabric Scraps Lightweight interfacing 808 Pellon Trims (We clipped  key fobs  with 1.5" swivel hooks onto our coin purses . There are tons of tutorials on making key fobs .) Step 1: Print out the Coin Purse Template  PDF.  Cut 2 main fabric, cut 2 lining and 2 interfacing using the template.  Optional: Cut a 2"X2" square of your choice main fabric or lining. This strip of fabric is used to clip a key fob to your coin purse later. We used a 1.5
